INDEPENDENCE: Daniel Gibson will have surgery today in California to repair a torn tendon in his left foot and ankle. The Cavs will update a timeline for his return following the surgery, but with just over three weeks left in the season, Gibson likely won't be healthy until next season.
Gibson tore the tendon in a win at New Jersey two weeks ago -- the Cavs' most recent victory -- and surgery was recommended by the Cavs' medical staff. He spent last week seeking more opinions, including visiting the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., before electing to have the procedure done by Dr. Richard Ferkel at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute in Van Nuys, Calif.
Gibson averaged 7.5 points, but shot a career-worst 35 percent this season. Next year is the final year of his contract, but it is only partially guaranteed.
