Hollins to start at center Wednesday vs. Nets
Ryan Hollins will start at center tonight for the Cavs and J.J. Hickson will shift to power forward less than a week after coach Byron Scott called Hickson his center for the remainder of the season.
"We need that size," Scott said. "We're just too small right now."
The 7-foot Hollins will battle Nets center Brook Lopez tonight, another 7 footer. Samardo Samuels will be Scott's first big off the bench.
"It's not a demotion at all," Scott said. "I just need that size in there."
The concern with Hickson was his tendency to drift farther away from the basket when he's at forward. Then he's launching long jumpers and out of position for rebounds, which is why Scott had intended on keeping him at center for the remainder of the season.
But Magic center Dwight Howard overpowered Hickson and Samuels, who both stand about 6-9, and Scott liked the energy Hollins brought on Monday. He wants to see if Hollins can do it again vs. another 7-footer. Lopez is averaging 20.1 points and six rebounds this season.
Scott wouldn't commit to the new lineup beyond tonight.
"It might be game by game depending on who we’re playing and who they’re starting," Scott said.
