Irving expected to play tonight vs. Spurs
INDEPENDENCE: Kyrie Irving participated in the Cavaliers' shootaround Tuesday morning and is expected to play tonight against the San Antonio Spurs. He will likely wear a protective sleeve over his right shoulder, which he sprained last week in a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.
"He said he feels great," Cavs coach Byron Scott said. "Just watching him shoot today, it didn't look like he had any ill-effects from the other day. I think we're good to go."
Irving missed just one game with the injury. His return is a welcomed boost to a team that has lost seven straight and 10 of their last 11. The Cavs are tied with Charlotte for the league's longest current losing streak, while the Spurs have won seven straight for the longest active winning streak.
The Spurs are constantly dismissed every season as too old to compete, and every year they're among the league's best. They are again leading their division and begin play tonight 2 1/2 games behind the Oklahoma City Thunder for the best mark in the Western Conference.
"This organization has been doing this for the past 10 years," Scott said of the Spurs. "Every year, people don't even talk about them being a force in the Western Conference. Then when you look up toward the end of the regular season, they're right there, just like they are this year."
