INDIANAPOLIS: Kyrie Irving will have an MRI on his ailing left knee Wednesday after he injured it in the third quarter of Tuesday's 91-76 loss to the Indiana Pacers. He was cleared to return to the court, but Irving said he felt a "pop" in the knee and it still felt weak even after he in the fourth quarter.

"I thought the worst had happened," Irving said. "My left knee is pretty weak right now. I was falling all over the place. I didn't have my legs under me."

INDIANAPOLIS: The Cavs shot 3-for-16 in the fourth quarter with 7 turnovers after leading after each of the first three quarters in falling to the Indiana Pacers 91-76 on Tuesday, extending their losing skid to a season-high six straight.

Anderson Varejao had 14 points and 11 rebounds in his 500th regular season game, Tristan Thompson had 13 rebounds and Kyrie Irving survived an injury scare to finish with 10 points and five rebounds, but the Cavs lost for the eighth time in their last nine games.

Thompson, Klay vs Cavs

CLEVELAND: An unlucky 13 thoughts tonight in honor of the Cavs’ rotten luck in close games lately, including Sunday’s 108-104 loss to the Golden State Warriors…

1. Gotta be honest, don’t have many thoughts about this team right now. Plus, given the ongoing dumpster fire in Berea, I’m guessing the Cavs could release Andrew Bynum tomorrow and no one would notice.

Cavs lose to Warriors 108-104 after missing final six shots

By Jason Lloyd Published: December 29, 2013

CLEVELAND: Kyrie Irving went scoreless in overtime after tying the game at the end of regulation and the Cavs failed to score over the final 2:56 of overtime to lose to the Golden State Warriors on Sunday 108-104 in overtime.

It was the second consecutive home game that went to overtime and the fourth home game in the last five with a thrilling finish. Yet the Cavs have still lost five straight, seven of their last eight and have fallen to 10-20, just three games ahead of their pace from last season. Their last three losses have been by a total of 9 points.

Zeller, Tyler vs celtics

BOSTON: Twenty-one thoughts tonight, one for every minute Tyler Zeller played during a wild, turbulent day in Boston that included a 103-100 loss to the Celtics and the likely end of Andrew Bynum’s time in Cleveland…

1. It doesn’t make much sense to me to rip the Cavs front office for Andrew Bynum not working out. They took a shot and missed. It’s really not all that surprising. I wrote a month ago the Cavs and Bynum were reaching the point where they had to decide if this was worth it. Ten days before Bynum’s contract was guaranteed for the rest of the season, we got our answer.

Waiters, Dion drive vs celtics

BOSTON: Dion Waiters' potential game-tying shot in the final seconds was blocked and Earl Clark never got a shot off at the buzzer as the Cavs lost to the Boston Celtics on Saturday 103-100 in a wild day when Andrew Bynum was suspended indefinitely and the Cavs rallied from 19 down at the start of the fourth quarter.

Kyrie Irving never touched the ball on either of the Cavs' final two possessions. Waiters drove the lane with the Cavs down 102-100, but his left-handed shot at the rim was blocked by Brandon Bass. The Cavs wasted precious seconds before fouling Avery Bradley, who split a pair of free throws with 1.4 seconds left, leaving the Cavs one more chance to tie.

BOSTON: Andrew Bynum has been suspended by the Cavaliers for conduct detrimental to the team and excused from all team activities. He did not travel with the team to Boston for today’s game against the Celtics and is unlikely to play in Sunday’s game against the Golden State Warriors.

It is realistic at this point to believe Bynum has played his last game for the Cavaliers.

Hawks 127, Cavs 125 2 OT; Jason Lloyd's final thoughts

By Jason Lloyd Published: December 27, 2013
Waiters drives vs Hawks

CLEVELAND: Twenty-four final thoughts, one for every crucial Cavs turnover in a crushing 127-125 loss to the Hawks in double overtime...

1. A lack of timely rebounds, terrible defense at critical points and a rash of turnovers all contributed to this loss, yet the Cavs, inexplicably, were still in a position to win the game. They could’ve won it in regulation, but Kyrie Irving had a pair of terrible turnovers on consecutive possessions. They were masked by Irving’s nifty steal of Jeff Teague on one possession, and a charge taken by Matthew Dellavedova to offset the other, but that’s irrelevant.

Cavs crushed at buzzer on Teague jumper, lose to Hawks 127-125 in double overtime

CLEVELAND: Jeff Teague’s jumper at the buzzer bounced around the rim five times before falling through, handing the Cavs a crushing 127-125 loss at the buzzer in double overtime. It’s the second time the Cavs have lost in the final second in their last four home games.

Kyrie Irving had 40 points and nine assists, including 12 in the second overtime, but he also committed six of the Cavs’ 24 turnovers. The Cavs have lost three straight and five of their last six, but none have been this wild.

I'm filling in for Jason again, the master of final thoughts. The Cavs were crushed by 23 tonight at home by the Pistons.

CHICAGO: Sixteen thoughts tonight for a 16-point loss to a Bulls team the Cavs should’ve beaten Saturday…

1. The final numbers are in and they aren’t pretty. The Bulls shot 54 percent and 67 percent on 3-pointers, both season highs. Their 10 3-pointers were one shy of their season high. They scored 100 points for the fifth time this season.

Lillard, Damian game winner to beat Cavs

CLEVELAND: Thirty-five thoughts tonight, one for each of the Blazers’ points off offensive rebounds in their 119-116 win over the Cavs that was so wild even LeBron James tweeted, “one of the best games this year so far if not the best.”

1. It’s funny how terrible shots turn into great shots when they go in. Damian Lillard took a bad shot, OK? His heave from about 30 feet at the end of the game, strategically, was not a good shot. But it went in, so it was a great shot.

The Cavs lost to the Miami Heat 114-107 on Saturday, their ninth consecutive loss to the Heat. But they rallied from a 19-point deficit early in the third quarter to take a 95-91 lead midway through the fourth quarter before the Heat took over during a six-minute stretch that sealed the victory.

1. It’s only December and there are still 60 games to go, but given the Cavs’ terrible start to the season, it’s noteworthy: The Cavs are a half-game behind the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards for the final two spots in the Eastern Conference. Even more surprising, they’re within one game of the fourth seed. The fourth seed! This is a team that was 4-12 not long ago.

Cavs' Kyrie Irving second among East guards in early All-Star voting

Irving, Kyrie vs Celtics

Kyrie Irving is second among guards in the Eastern Conference in All-Star voting, according to the first batch of returns announced Thursday. Irving has 365,712 votes, trailing only the Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade (365,712). Derrick Rose, who is out for the rest of the regular season, is a distant third with 272,410.

Irving leads all Eastern Conference point guards in scoring at 20.5 points and is also averaging 6 assists, but he's shooting just .407 in his third season. His popularity nationally has been aided by the "Uncle Drew' character he created in conjunction with Pepsi Max. He was named to the All-Star team last season as an injury replacement.
