NBA postpones training camp, cancels 43 preseason games
The NBA today officially postponed the start of training camp and canceled the first 43 preseason games through Oct. 15. That wipes out the Cavs' first three preseason games: home against the Milwaukee Bucks (Oct. 13), at Orlando (Oct. 15) and home against the New Orleans Hornets.
As it stands now, the Cavs' first preseason game is Oct. 17 at San Antonio. But with labor negotiations at a standstill, the rest of the preseason schedule seems in peril, too.
Talks between the league and union officials broke down again this week, prompting the cancellations to begin. Camps were expected to open Oct. 3.
"We have regretfully reached the point on the calendar where we are not able to open training camps on time and need to cancel the first week of preseason games," Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement. "We will make further decisions as warranted."
