Irving jump shot vs Warriors

Kyrie Irving will not play tonight when the Cavs return home to host the Toronto Raptors. It's the second consecutive game Irving has missed with a hyperextended right knee. He also missed Tuesday's victory at Chicago.

Irving banged knees with Omri Casspi in practice last week. He tried playing through the soreness over the weekend in games at Orlando and Miami, but was shut down by the team's medical staff.

CHICAGO: Final thoughts from a stunning win and a surprisingly successful road trip...

* Byron Scott told the players before this trip that they should take 2 out of 3. Remember, one of those games was against the defending champs and another was against a team that has destroyed the Cavs every game over the last three seasons.

CHICAGO: Kyrie Irving was dressed in a suit and sitting at the end of the Cavaliers’ bench, so coach Byron Scott turned to rookie Dion Waiters and handed him the ball.

In return, Waiters delivered a big night and a rare win against a Chicago Bulls team that has routinely pounded the Cavs the last three seasons.

CHICAGO: Kyrie Irving has a hyperextended right knee and won't play tonight when the Cavaliers face the Chicago Bulls. He is listed as day to day moving forward and is questionable for tomorrow's home game against the Toronto Raptors.

Irving banged knees with teammates in practice before departing on this three-game road trip. He tried playing through it during the two games in Florida, but didn't look like himself and shot 10 of 29 in the two games. He said after the Miami game the knee was affecting his game, so the medical staff decided to shut him down. Shaun Livingston will start tonight at point guard.

ORLANDO, FLA.: Final thoughts from the most lopsided road victory of the season...

* Those who follow the Magic insist they're going to make a run at the Cavs' historic 26-game losing streak -- and they just might. They've lost 28 of 31 and they traded away one of their best players in J.J. Redick at Thursday's trade deadline. Of their final 26 games, 21 of them are against teams headed to the playoffs.

Oden looking up

The Cavs are expected to offer free agent center Greg Oden a two-year contract with a team option for a third year after the Feb. 21 trade deadline passes, a league source said.  The contract would begin immediately.

The Cavs have about $4 million in cap space, which they are preserving now for potential trades. Teams around the league don't want to sign Oden until after the trade deadline.

Oden has visited with the Boston Celtics and could meet again with the Cavs in the coming weeks, his agent said Friday.

Oden is living nearby in Columbus. His agent, Mike Conley Sr., said last week Oden has been to see the Cavs a couple of times already, but was evasive when pressed as to what capacity.

“Greg has been up there (to Cleveland) before and he’ll probably be up there again in an official capacity,” Conley said Friday.

CLEVELAND: Final thoughts following one of the Cavs' finest performances of the season...

* Nights like this allow me to reiterate why I think the Cavs are closer to relevance than their record indicates. They've now beaten the Thunder and Clippers, two of the three best teams in the powerful Western Conference. They lost in the final minutes to New York, Brooklyn, Miami and Memphis -- all on the road. So while their 14-34 record is horrendous, they've been competitive until the end against the league's very best.
