Cavaliers guard Daniel Gibson practiced today for the first time since he was sidelined with a soft tissue infection in his neck. Gibson missed the past four games, but coach Byron Scott expects him to play Tuesday against the Miami Heat, barring any unforeseen setbacks.
With Gibson back in the fold, the Cavs waived undrafted rookie guard Mychel Thompson this afternoon. The move gives the team roster flexibility as the March 15 trade deadline approaches. Mychel Thompson started the past three games because of injuries. In five games this season, he averaged 3.6 points on .292 shooting, one rebound and 1.4 assists in 19 minutes per game.
Guard Anthony Parker (back) and rookie forward Tristan Thompson (sprained left ankle) won't make the trip to Miami because of their injuries, Scott said. Parker will miss his fourth consecutive game, and Tristan Thompson will sit out his third in a row.
