When Byron Scott walked out of the locker room and saw the assembled mass of cameras and microphones this morning, he immediately compared it to his Lakers-Celtics NBA Finals days. And today certainly has that feel already.
While the Heat were resting comfortably at their hotel down the street, the Cavaliers went through their standard morning shootaround. Mo Williams addressed the media in a Red Sox jacket -- perhaps a jab at LeBron James' allegiance to the Yankees? -- and made it clear he has nothing to say to James.
"It's almost like your ex-girlfriend coming to your wedding," he said.
Asked if he has anything he wants to say to James after the game, Williams said "we've moved on."
"He's with the Heat," Williams said. "After the game, we'll approach it like any other game. We'll give our nods and our little salutes and go head in this locker room."
Scott played for three teams in his career -- the Lakers, Indiana Pacers and Vancouver Grizzlies. He knows all about returning to cities where he once played.
"But I left in pretty good standing," Scott joked.
This one isn't expected to go as well.
Scott and players alike again stressed to the fans to be loud, rowdy and raucous, but keep it legal and tasteful. Scott said he's played in plenty of hostile environments during his days, but none were nastier than road games at Boston when he played for the Lakers.
"It got bad enough they were mooning our wives," Scott said. "Hopefully it doesn't get that bad here tonight."
