CLEVELAND: The Cavaliers will select fourth again in the June 28 NBA draft. They entered with the third-best odds of landing the top pick, but fell out of the lottery when their 13.8 percent chance at the top pick didn’t come through.

The Cavs won a coin flip with the New Orleans Hornets to have one extra selection in the lottery, but the Hornets ultimately were the big winners.

Kyrie Irving was the only unanimous selection to the NBA's All-Rookie team, while Cavs forward Tristan Thompson was named to the second team. All 30 NBA coaches vote on the awards.

Irving was joined on the first team by Minnesota's Ricky Rubio, Denver's Kenneth Faried, Golden State's Klay Thompson, New York's Iman Shumpert, San Antonio's Kawhi Leonard and Detroit's Brandon Knight. Shumpert, Leonard and Knight all tied for fifth.

Kyrie Irving was named to the 2012 Team USA Men's Select team today in a long-expected announcement. The Select team will train against the men's Olympic basketball team from July 6-12 in Las Vegas. Irving will then remain in Las Vegas to participate with the Cavaliers' summer league team July 13-22.

Irving, who has dual citizenship with Australia, bypassed playing with the Aussies in the Olympics this summer, so he could participate with the Select team and align himself for a spot on the men's Olympic roster in 2016.

Kyrie Irving told GQ Magazine that leaving Cleveland has "never crossed my mind" but that he did feel a LeBron hangover during his rookie year in Cleveland.

"I think there will always be LeBron hanging over," Irving said. "But I know that the Cleveland fans just want us to be really good again, and even when we were on a nine-game losing streak, the fans were still out there supporting us."

Kyrie Irving might be even more creative off the basketball floor than he is on it. The reigning Rookie of the Year wrote and produced an online commercial for Pespi MAX that launched this morning.

In the five minute film, Irving plays an old man called "Uncle Drew" who staggers out onto the court, only to eventually take over the pickup basketball game. His father, Dred, and his sister, Asia, each has a cameo in the film, as does one of Irving's closest friends.

Cavs owner Dan Gilbert, who made headlines earlier this season with a spicy e-mail to NBA Commissioner David Stern over a proposed trade, has been named to the league's reconstructed Competition Committee.

The league's Board of Governors voted last month to construct the Competition Committee with two owners, four general managers, three head coaches and one player. Previously, the committee consisted of all 30 general managers, but that has been renamed the General Managers Commitee.

INDEPENDENCE: Kyrie Irving had four months to write his acceptance speech. He made it a good one.

Irving cracked jokes, thanked the Cavaliers organization and in a heartfelt moment, thanked his late mother and his father, Dred, after being presented with the Rookie of the Year award on Tuesday at Cleveland Clinic Courts.

Only three players have ever been unanimous choices for Rookie of the Year -- the Clippers' Blake Griffin last year, San Antonio's David Robinson in 1990 and Houston's Ralph Sampson in 1984. New Orleans' Chris Paul missed by one vote in 2006.

Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman has informed NBA Commissioner David Stern that his city wants an NBA franchise, the Columbus Dispatch reported on Thursday. Coleman sent a letter to Stern this week expressing the city's interest in either an expansion or relocated team, but it won't be easy.

Stern has made it clear in recent times that expansion simply isn't an option right now for the NBA, which already has 30 teams. And even if it was, Columbus would be well behind Seattle, which has fought hard to land another NBA team after the SuperSonics moved to Oklahoma City in 2008.

INDEPENDENCE: Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert believes he has the right personnel in place and is willing to remain as patient as it takes to turn the team around, but believes the playoffs are a possibility next season.

Armed with three of the top 34 picks in this summer's draft, Gilbert called this an important draft as the Cavs continue the slow climb back up the NBA standings.
