INDEPENDENCE: Cavs coach Byron Scott is changing his rotation for tomorrow night's preseason finale against the Indiana Pacers.
Scott wouldn't divulge details, but the most likely scenario would be to move Alonzo Gee back into the starting lineup and push rookie Dion Waiters to the bench. That would push C.J. Miles from small forward to shooting guard.
"I want to see some different combinations and I just want to see how it looks," Scott said. "We’re so young right now, trying to get guys to really figure out how to play with each other is big. And the biggest thing for us right now on the defensive end is understanding what we have to do on a night to night basis. I don’t think we’re fully understanding that yet, so maybe this different combination will bring us a little more energy."
Gee is considered one of the team's better defenders.
The Cavs will have a week off following their final preseason game, which Scott loves considering the youth on the roster.
"The schedule we have when we start playing is going to be a monster, so the more practice time we have right now the better for us, especially with how young we are," Scott said. "Now if we were a veteran team, then I would hate this schedule because you want to play. Guys already know the system and know everything that’s going on. But our young team right now, we need as much practice time as we can get."
Irving sits: Kyrie Irving missed the second half of practice Monday after catching an errant elbow over his eye. The eye swelled instantly, so Irving sat as a precauation, but it's not expected to be serious.
Luke Harangody is also hobbling with a sore knee, but it isn't expected to keep him out of Tuesday's preseason finale.
