Steve Hetzel named coach of D-League's Canton Charge

By Jason Lloyd Published: September 11, 2013

Steve Hetzel was named the head coach of the Canton Charge, the Cavaliers' own Development League affiliate. Hetzel, 33, was the Cavaliers' video coordinator for three seasons under Mike Brown (2006-09) and most recently served as the Detroit Pistons' player development coach.

"Steve has excelled every step along the way during his eight years in the NBA and we are thrilled to have someone with his player development and coaching experience and expertise leading the Charge going forward," Cavs director development league operations Mike Gansey said.

Fans can meet Hetzel during a free fan fest from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Memorial Civic Center.

Hetzel replaces Alex Jensen, the D-League's Coach of the Year last season. Jensen is now a player development assistant with the Utah Jazz.
