Cavs owner Dan Gilbert blasts Donald Sterling's alleged comments as 'reprehensible'

By Jason Lloyd Published: April 29, 2014

Dan Gilbert is the latest in a growing line of NBA owners to publicly blast Clippers owner Donald Sterling for racist remarks he allegedly made caught on tape.

"It is shocking that anyone could hold the kind of offensive and feeble minded views that are being attributed allegedly to the Clippers owner, Donald Sterling," Gilbert said in a statement late Monday night. "The diverse staff members of the Cleveland Cavaliers franchise are unified in encouraging Commissioner Silver and the NBA to respond with swift and appropriate action consistent with a strong zero tolerance approach to this type of reprehensible behavior."

Cavs' acting GM David Griffin stresses fit, toughness, basketball IQ issues

By Marla Ridenour Published: April 22, 2014

Acting Cavs general manager David Griffin repeatedly stressed “fit” issues and criticized the team’s toughness and basketball IQ during a season-wrap-up press conference Tuesday at Cleveland Clinic Courts.

“We need to be bigger,” Griffin said. “We need to be much smarter as a team; our basketball needs to improve. Our shooting needs to improve. I feel strongly that our toughness needs to improve. Those are things we need to address all within the confines of fit.”

Waiters, Irving support return of Mike Brown as coach

Waiters, Dion alone

INDEPENDENCE: Dion Waiters gave the strongest endorsement of any Cavs player when he said he wanted Mike Brown to return to maintain stability within the organization.

“I’d like to see coach come back,” he said Thursday. “We’ve been together for a year. The ups and downs he stuck with us, we stuck with him. … I don’t think we need any more changes right now.”

Cavs 114, Nets 85; Jason Lloyd's (final) final thoughts

By Jason Lloyd Published: April 17, 2014
Irving, Kyrie Fan App night

CLEVELAND: Thirty-three thoughts for 33 victories this season following a 114-85 win against the Brooklyn Nets in the season finale…

1. Let’s start with Kyrie Irving. He was asked again tonight about signing a max contract this summer (by my count the third time it has come up) and he again refused to say he would accept it. But he came closer than ever before.

Cavs pound Nets in finale; uncertain offseason looming next

Gee, Thompson vs Nets

CLEVELAND: For all that the Cavaliers endured this season, Mike Brown didn’t want the final impression of this team to be the way they gave up over the last week after they were officially eliminated from postseason contention.

This team endured too much and fought back to play well for two months to go out as quitters. So he treated the last couple days of practice, Wednesday’s final morning shootaround and all of the recent film sessions as he normally would. He played his starters typical minutes and the Cavs beat a stripped-down Brooklyn Nets club 114-85 Wednesday, equaling their biggest blowout win of the season.

Celtics 111, Cavs 99 — Ryan Lewis' Final Thoughts

By Ryan Lewis Published: April 12, 2014

Ten thoughts for a team that might or might not have quit on this season (not my words) after a 111-99 loss to the not-very-good Boston Celtics.

1. Cavs coach Mike Brown gave credit to five players tonight for how they played in the fourth quarter: Alonzo Gee, Tristan Thompson, Matthew Dellavedova, Jarrett Jack and Tyler Zeller. Said Brown, on the way they moved the ball and played defense, "I hadn't seen that in a while. And it was fun to see."

2. Brown was then asked, point blank, if the front-liners—meaning Kyrie Irving, Dion Waiters, etc—had mailed in the season. That should be a question answered by a coach with a resounding "Hell no, we're still fighting, this team has a lot of fight in it." Brown's answer?

3. "I don't know." He then added, "When you watch us play, we don't look like we're playing to get better. We look like we're playing, going through the motions. And it's not good. It's not good at all."

4. The head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers isn't sure if this team has quit on this season or not.

Wright, Chris Bucks dunk

MILWAUKEE: Nine thoughts following an embarrassing 119-116 loss to the woeful Bucks…

1. Part of learning to be a professional is learning how to show up for work when no one is watching and there’s little motivation remaining. The Cavs did a terrible job of this Friday.

MILWAUKEE: One of Mike Brown’s keys to Friday night was to remind his players to respect the game, respect the opponent and close the season the right way.

So much for that.

Jack, Jarrett vs Pistons

CLEVELAND: The Cavaliers recorded assists on each of their first 15 baskets and set a franchise record for most assists in a half in a 122-100 pounding of the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.

Matthew Dellavedova had a career-high 12 assists, Dion Waiters had eight, Luol Deng had seven and Kyrie Irving had five in one of the season’s most efficient performances. The Cavs had assists on all 14 of their baskets in the first quarter and 26 for the half, the most in franchise history and the most in a half in the NBA this season, leading to a 69-37 lead at the half.

ATLANTA: Nineteen thoughts for 19 Dion Waiters shots following a terrible 117-98 loss in a game that effectively ended the Cavs’ postseason hopes…

Irving, Kyrie drive lane vs ORL

ORLANDO, FLA.: Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters looked terrific playing alongside each other Wednesday. Now there is hope the Cavs’ 19th different starting lineup combination might be the last.

Irving had 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds in his first game back and Waiters scored 26 points in the Cavs’ impressive 119-98 dismantling of the Orlando Magic to keep pace in a tight Eastern Conference playoff race.

Kyrie Irving returns to Cavs' starting lineup to play alongside Dion Waiters

Irving, Kyrie gold uni horizontal

ORLANDO, FLA.: They have tried twice before to make it work with mixed results. Now Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters are back together again.

Irving returns to the starting lineup Wednesday when the Cavs face the Orlando Magic. He will start alongside Waiters, who was removed as a starter after just nine games this season and didn’t return until Irving went down with a biceps injury two weeks ago. Now that both young guards are healthy, Mike Brown is willing to give their partnership another chance.
