Anderson Varejao is back in tonight's starting lineup for the Cavaliers, but Mo Williams is not.
Varejao went through the walkthrough and will play his typical minutes against the Kings after missing Friday's game in Toronto to be with his sick father. But Byron Scott wants to hold Williams out just another couple of days. Barring any setbacks, Williams will play Tuesday against Atlanta.
"Mo understands it," Scott said. "As much as he wants to play, he understands where I’m coming from. I don’t want this to be reoccurring. I want this gone completely so when he does get out there in game four of the season, he can go from game four to game 82."
Williams would have been out there already had it not been for the five days he was in Mississippi for his father-in-law's funeral. Williams played in a preseason game prior to that and Scott said he was "more than ready." But the five days of treatment he missed has caused Scott to pull back more than usual.
"It's just me. I think he's fine," Scott said. "If this was game 82 of the season and we needed a win to get in the playoffs, he could play. I just don't want to risk it and I think another day of rest tomorrow and one more good day of practice Monday, I think he'll be fine. I'll feel better."
