Waiters quiet in return, Raptors end 11-game road losing streak with 113-99 win over Cavs
CLEVELAND: The Cavaliers' on-again, off-again effort turned off again and the result was inevitable. Jose Calderon continued his mastery of Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters had a quiet return to the lineup in the Toronto Raptors' 113-99 victory over the Cavaliers on Tuesday.
The win ended the Raptors' 11-game road losing streak and improved them to 1-14 away from Air Canada Centre.
Waiters returned to the starting lineup after missing eight games with a sprained left ankle, but he was as rusty as coach Byron Scott expected. Waiters had eight points and four assists, making just 4 of 13 shots while falling into foul trouble.
Calderon averaged 14 points, 11 assists and six rebounds in two games against Irving last season. He followed it up with 23 points, five rebounds and six assists on Tuesday.
Irving had 23 points and seven assists and Anderson Varejao had 22 points and 10 rebounds, but the Cavs failed to play with the same fire they displayed in recent games against the Lakers and Knicks.
Coach Byron Scott has lamented their inability to get up for games against weaker opponents and it happened again. The Raptors shot 52 percent and sealed the victory by scoring 35 points in the fourth quarter.
The Cavs will play at Boston on Wednesday.
