CLEVELAND: Dion Waiters scored 19 points, Tristan Thompson had 12 points and 16 rebounds and the Cavaliers yet again resuscitated their playoff hopes with an impressive 90-76 victory Sunday against the Indiana Pacers.

The Cavs climbed back within 2.5 games of the idle Atlanta Hawks for the final playoff spot.

The Pacers have hit a rough patch at the wrong time and the Cavs were happy to take advantage. Paul George scored 15 points for the Pacers, but shot 5-for-13. The Cavs held the Pacers to 38 percent shooting and turned Roy Hibbert into a non-factor (six points, five rebounds).

The Cavs have struggled getting off to fast starts, but scored the game’s first eight points, regained the lead for good with three minutes left in the first quarter and extended it to as many as 21 points.

Jarrett Jack had 11 points, nine assists and six rebounds and all five starters finished in double figures.

The Cavs ended a nine-game losing streak to the Pacers. They failed to score even 80 points in any of the first three meetings this season. But it wasn’t all good news. Anderson Varejao strained his right shoulder late in the second quarter and did not return.
