Waiters scores 28 in Cavs' win over Clippers
LOS ANGELES: Dion Waiters scored a career-high 28 points and made seven 3-pointers and Kyrie Irving had 24 points and 10 assists in the Cavs' 108-101 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday.
Waiters had by far his best night as a pro. He made 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions in the third quarter to thwart the Clippers' attempt at a comeback. Irving started hot, scoring 16 points in the first quarter, but went cold until the fourth quarter while Waiters took over.
Irving's 3-pointer with 28.1 seconds left put the Cavs up 107-101. He stretched both arms out wide, found Waiters at half court and the two celebrated with a leaping chest bump as the staggered Clippers walked off the court with a timeout.
Anderson Varejao had 15 points and 15 rebounds and Tyler Zeller had 15 points and seven rebounds before leaving in the fourth quarter when he caught an elbow from DeAndre Jordan in the face.
Chris Paul had 17 points and nine assists for the Clippers and Blake Griffin had 20 rebounds and six rebounds. The Cavs are 2-2 and play at Golden State on Wednesday.
