The Cavaliers have remained in trade talks with the Lakers and Magic, but little progress has been made and no deal is remotely close to being concluded.

ESPN.com reported on Wednesday that the Cavs have moved ahead of the Rockets as a facilitator in a deal with the Lakers and Magic, but a league source briefed on the talks maintained Wednesday this is all a leverage tactic to get the Rockets to up their offer for Howard.

LAS VEGAS: Cavs guard Kyrie Irving will have surgery Wednesday at the Cleveland Clinic to repair the fracture in his right hand. Irving was injured during practice Saturday morning when he slapped the wall in frustration.

He was examined by team doctors on Monday. His recovery time is expected to be 6 to 8 weeks and he is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.

LAS VEGAS: Within a span of 12 seconds, Dion Waiters learned what it was like to win a game and lose a game in the NBA.

Waiters nailed a big jumper with 12 seconds left to give the Cavs the lead, then tried calling a timeout when they didn’t have any. The result was a technical foul and a 68-64 loss to the Charlotte Bobcats.

LAS VEGAS: Byron Scott was anxious to see his new starting backcourt of Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters during summer league games this week. They only made it through 1 ½ practices before Irving was forced to return to Cleveland after fracturing a small bone on the outside of his right hand near his pinkie.

All of the Cavs’ plans for this summer quickly imploded.

LAS VEGAS: Kyrie Irving will miss the summer league season after fracturing his a bone in his right hand during the Cavs’ morning practice on Saturday. He is flying back to Cleveland on Sunday and will need surgery to repair the break. He is expected to miss six to eight weeks, but should be healthy for the start of training camp in October.

Irving was upset with himself after turning the ball over in practice and he smacked his hand into the padding on the wall. The padding was thinner than he thought, he said, but it didn’t hurt right away and he kept playing. Then his hand was hit again a few minutes later and he took himself out.

Say this for Kyrie Irving: He fears no one. Irving and Lakers star Kobe Bryant had a playful exchange caught on tape during Team USA practices this week. 

The superstar and budding star agreed to play a game of 1 on 1 a year from now, with the loser donating $50,000 to the winner. 

The Cavaliers will host the Milwaukee Bucks on Oct. 9 in a presason game at the Canton Civic Center, the team announced Wednesday. The Civic Center is home to the Charge, the Cavs' Development League team.

They tried hosting a preseason game there last year, but it was wiped out by the lockout. It will be the first NBA game ever played in Canton. Charge season ticket holders will have the Cavs preseason game included in their package for free.

The Cavaliers have pulled out of trade negotiations with the Orlando Magic and Brooklyn Nets, Yahoo! Sports reported on Tuesday.

Ultimately, they were never very far engaged.

Cleveland's best-kept secret is out. By the time the U.S. Olympic team leaves Las Vegas, the rest of the NBA will know how sensational Kyrie Irving is going to be.

Irving is in Vegas this week playing with the U.S. Select team, which practices and scrimmages against Team USA this week. He'll remain there for the Cavs' Summer League schedule, which begins Sunday. 

The Cavs' involvement in a blockbuster four-team trade hasn't changed, a league source with knowledge of the trade talks confirmed to the Beacon Journal late Monday. No deal is close despite widspread reports to the contrary.

The Cavaliers have been approached by the Brooklyn Nets as a possible third team in a trade that would ship Dwight Howard out of Orlando, but the talks are not substantive and a deal is not imminent.

Cleveland made its way onto a list of possible destinations for free agent point guard Derek Fisher, according to a New York Times story today.

Fisher would be a terrific fit in a young locker room and would be an ideal backup to Kyrie Irving, but let's not get carried away. The Cavaliers are still years away from legitimate contention and Fisher doesn't strike me as a guy searching for a rebuilding project.

Dion Waiters and Tyler Zeller signed their rookie contracts with the Cavs. Terms were not disclosed, but given the rookie wage scale, Waiters' deal is likely in the neighborhood of four years and $16.7 million, while Zeller's deal should be for about four years and $7.4 million.

The first two years on both of those are guaranteed and the following two are team options. Waiters will make about $3.7 million this season, while Zeller will make about $1.6 million.

Wes Wilcox is leaving the Cavs' front office to join Danny Ferry's new staff in Atlanta, two sources with knowledge of the move confirmed.

Wilcox, 33, joined the Cavs in 2003 as an advance scout and most recently served as the team's director of player personnel and the general manager of the Development League Canton Charge.

Semih Erden signed a two-year contract with Turkey's Anadolu Efes of the Euroleague, the team's website reported. The Cavs have not confirmed the report.

Erden, 25, spent two injury-plagued seasons in Cleveland, averaging 3.5 points and 2.6 rebounds in 28 games (nine starts) last season. Coach Byron Scott had high hopes for Erden, but they went relatively unmet. 

The Cavaliers waived guard Manny Harris on Monday, only days after adding Dion Waiters as presumably the starting shooting guard.

By waiving Harris now, the Cavs have given him ample time to sign with another team. Free agency began on Sunday.
