Cavs 117, Knicks 88; Jason Lloyd's 29 thoughts on rings, banners and the Undertaker

By Jason Lloyd Published: October 26, 2016

CLEVELAND: Twenty-nine thoughts for 29 points from Kyrie Irving in the Cavs’ 117-88 win against the New York Knicks on Tuesday’s ring night celebration…

1.       This night, this championship night, began with a deadman and ended with a king. And in between were tears. Lots of tears. From LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and J.R. Smith, among others. Tears, kings and an undertaker. Sounds about right.

2.       The night Cleveland had anticipated for four months – or 52 years, depending on your perspective – exceeded the anticipation. James wiped away tears after addressing the crowd, Irving cried when he hugged his father and J.R. cried because J.R. cries. He’s emotional. It’s cool.

James had 19 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds for his 43rd career triple-double and the Cavs opened defense of the franchise’s first championship by smashing the new-look New York Knicks 117-88 Tuesday night. James is now 3-0 on ring nights.

By Jason Lloyd Published: October 25, 2016

INDEPENDENCE: Cavs owner Dan Gilbert expects to sit down with LeBron James in the coming days for their annual meeting. Gilbert told 850-AM WKNR that he views his relationship with James as a partnership.

“We go deep and talk about stuff and figure out where we need to go with the partnership,” Gilbert told The Really Big Show on Tuesday morning. “It’s really a partnership when you think about it.”

It’s a partnership that has come a long way considering the bitter divorce the pair went through in 2010 when James left for Miami. Gilbert has consistently referred to that as “one bad night” during all of their years together.
