Former Kent guard Nate Reinking to be named Charge head coach

By Jason Lloyd Published: September 20, 2016

Former Kent State guard Nate Reinking will be named the new head coach of the Canton Charge, the Cavs' Development League affiliate, a league source told the Beacon Journal. Reinking, 42, left Kent as the seventh-leading scorer in school history in 1996 before playing overseas for nearly two decades.

Reinking earned British citizenship during his playing days and played for Great Britain in the 2012 London Olympics. He has been an assistant with the Charge since 2013 and takes over for Jordi Fernandez, who recently left to join the Denver Nuggets’ coaching staff. Fernandez leaves as the winningest coach in Charge history following consecutive conference championship appearances.

Sources: Former coach David Blatt will get championship ring from Cavs

By Jason Lloyd Published: September 15, 2016

David Blatt is getting one more parting gift from the Cavaliers: a championship ring.

Blatt was fired at the midpoint of the Cavs’ championship season, but the team has ordered a ring for him, too, multiple sources confirmed to the Beacon Journal. He is now the head coach of Darüsşafaka Doğuş in Turkey.

Blatt went 83-40 in parts of two seasons with the Cavs and guided them to the NBA Finals in 2015, where they lost to the Golden State Warriors in six games. He was replaced by Tyronn Lue after going 30-11 last season. Under Lue, the Cavs became the first team in NBA Finals history to erase a 3-1 deficit and win the championship.

Cavs fan in California pulls ultimate troll maneuver, gets '3-1 lead' license plate

By Dan Kadar Published: September 13, 2016

Despite risking his car getting destroyed by angry Golden State Warriors fans, Conrad Kaczmarek is taking the risk. The Cavaliers fan and California resident boldly purchased a vanity license plate that reads "3 1LEAD."

That's right, as in that time the Warriors had a 3-1 lead on the Cavs in the NBA Finals before Cleveland turned it around and ended the city's championship curse.

Iman Shumpert could be suspended following DUI arrest last month

By Jason Lloyd Published: September 9, 2016

Cavs guard Iman Shumpert could be facing a suspension following his arrest near Atlanta for driving under the influence of marijuana.

Shumpert was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 10 by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and charged with DUI, possession of marijuana (less than an ounce) and failure to maintain lane after an officer spotted the taillights on his rental car weren’t working and observed him swerving. The Cavs announced Shumpert’s arrest on Friday. No court date has been set.

Ty Lawson was suspended two games for his first DUI arrest last season and Greg Monroe was suspended two games for driving while visibly impaired – a charge in Michigan similar to DUI. If convicted, Shumpert will also be placed in the league’s marijuana program. If this is Shumpert’s first marijuana violation, he will not face additional sanctions. Players aren’t suspended for marijuana use until a third offense, either by court conviction or a failed drug test administered by the league. A second violation results in a $25,000 fine and a third offense is a five-game suspension.

LeBron James (poorly) sings 'Happy Birthday' to Kevin Love

By Dan Kadar Published: September 7, 2016

LeBron James crooned "Happy Birthday" to teammate Kevin Love to celebrate the forward's 28th birthday on Wednesday.

On his Instagram page, an extremely off-key James sang to an old issue of Sports Illustrated featuring Love wearing his UCLA jersey. Maybe all of that talk about James and Love not getting along last season was overblown.

James wrote: "Happy Bday to my guy/bro @kevinlove!!! Enjoy to the fullest. All love for Love! #MyVocalsAreNice #Automatic #Worrrrrkkkkk Hahahaha"

LeBron James reveals dream is to own NBA team

By Jason Lloyd Published: August 17, 2016

LeBron James is still chasing Michael Jordan’s legacy. Eventually that may carry into ownership, too. James revealed on an “Open Court” podcast released Wednesday that his dream is to one day be an NBA owner.

“My dream is actually to own a team,” James told hosts Jesse Williams amd Stefan Marolachakis. “I don’t need to (be) fully hands on. If I’m fortunate enough to own a team, I’m going to hire the best GM and president I can.”

James has been asked multiple times about eventually owning a team, but has always avoided answering directly – until now. Jordan, who is still ahead of him with six championships, is the majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets.

“I feel like I’ve got a good eye, not only for talent, because we all see talent, but things that make the talent,” James said. “The chemistry, what type of guy he is, his work ethic, his passion, the basketball IQ side of things. Because talent only goes so far.”

Cavs to receive rings Oct. 25 against New York Knicks

By Jason Lloyd Published: August 11, 2016

The Cavaliers will receive their NBA championship rings on opening night Oct. 25 and raise the city’s first championship banner in 52 years against the New York Knicks. They’ll also host Kevin Durant and the Golden State Warriors in a highly-anticipated rematch on Christmas Day – this time at home.

The Cavs will face the revamped Knicks at home to start a season for the second time in three years – the two teams also met on opening night when James first returned to Cleveland two years ago. The game against the Warriors is followed by a return trip to Oracle Arena on Martin Luther King Day, the team’s first trip back to Oakland since winning the championship.

Other schedule highlights include a trip to the Washington Wizards on Nov. 11 that will likely include a stop at the White House to visit with President Obama.
