CINCINNATI: LeBron James has spent the early part of this preseason helping his teammates find a rhythm. He spent Wednesday night finding his own.
James shook off a sluggish start to the preseason to score 26 points in 24 minutes in the Cavs’ 98-93 preseason victory against the Indiana Pacers on the campus of Xavier University.
James totaled 19 points in his first two preseason games while shooting 6-for-19. He washed all of that away with a 9-for-12 performance Wednesday while adding four rebounds and three assists. His only blemish were the four turnovers, which give him 10 for the preseason.
Kevin Love was banged around for the second consecutive night and did not play in the second half. He injured his neck in the first half and remained in the locker room for treatment after halftime, although the Cavs say it isn’t serious. To read more or comment...
CLEVELAND: Kevin Love had 25 points and Dion Waiters had 23 in the Cavs’ 106-100 victory Tuesday against the Milwaukee Bucks.
LeBron James missed the game to rest, Kyrie Irving sat with a sprained right ankle and Kevin Love sat the fourth quarter after banging knees with Jabari Parker, rendering the Cavs without any members of their Big Three to close the game.
Anderson Varejao also knocked knees in the fourth quarter and hobbled to the bench. Varejao injured his right knee, the same one that caused him so many problems two years ago. But both Varejao and Love watched the end of the game from the bench and neither needed to head to the locker room during the game for more examinations.
The decision to rest James was not a surprise since the Cavs are playing three games in four nights and coach David Blatt already warned James would miss one of them.To read more or comment...
CLEVELAND: LeBron James will not play Tuesday night when the Cavaliers face the Milwaukee Bucks. He will play on Wednesday when they face the Indiana Pacers in Cincinnati, coach David Blatt said.
James resting tonight is simply a maintenance issue. He is not injured.
"Just part of our process and part of our management of how we want to approach preseason and best get him ready for the start of the season," Blatt said.
Blatt said Tristan Thompson will be a game-time decision tonight as well. Thompson missed practice Monday and is dealing with a sore shoulder, although it's not considered serious. To read more or comment...
The Cavs have three preseason games this week, but two of their big three will likely be sitting out some of them.
Kyrie Irving may miss Tuesday's home exhibition against the Milwaukee Bucks and Wednesday's game against the Indiana Pacers in Cincinnati as he continues to rehab a sprained ankle. LeBron James is leaning towards taking one of the back-to-back games off, but isn't sure which one.
The best chance for fans to see both may be Friday, when the Cavs host the Dallas Mavericks at Quicken Loans Arena.
Irving was hurt in practice Tuesday before the Cavs left for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for Saturday's exhibition against the Miami Heat. Irving said teammate Anderson Varejao stepped on his foot, but didn't consider the injury serious. To read more or comment...
RIO DE JANEIRO: Twenty-six thoughts for 26 terrific minutes from Kevin Love in a 122-119 overtime win that capped a memorable week in Brazil…
1. This isn’t at all groundbreaking, but if the Cavs are going to win a championship this season, they must learn how to defend. The perimeter defense was terrible last season, as were a lot of the pick-and-roll coverages. That’s what made Saturday encouraging.
2. I thought Dion Waiters was great defensively. He snuck behind Chris Bosh and poked away a steal in the first half, he went straight up on one of Dwyane Wade’s drives to the basket and forced Wade to give it up on another possession and generally just seemed to be more aware. Waiters’ stout upper body gives him the capability of being a strong defender, he just has to want to do it. Against the Heat he was great at both ends.
3. Kevin Love’s defensive liabilities are well documented. Even Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor got his shots in after the trade that brought him to Cleveland. And those deficiencies are real.To read more or comment...
