Cavs pick up option to bring Timofey Mozgov back next season

By Jason Lloyd Published: June 23, 2015

The Cavaliers picked up the option on Timofey Mozgov’s contract for next season, the team announced Tuesday. It was all a mere formality. There was never a doubt the Cavs would pick up the option year, worth just $4.9 million on one of the league’s team-friendliest deals in the league.

The Cavs surrendered two first-round picks to acquire Mozgov from the Denver Nuggets in January. They revamped their defense after his arrival and carried that defensive mentality all the way to the Finals.

Mozgov started 45 games for the Cavs and averaged a career-high 10.6 points to go with his 6.9 rebounds and 1.2 blocks. The Cavs now have just four players under contract for next season: Mozgov, Kyrie Irving, Joe Harris and Anderson Varejao. The rest are either free agents (both restricted and unrestricted) or hold a player option for next season.

Warriors 105, Cavs 97; Jason Lloyd's 51 thoughts on a 51-year drought and why Iguodala was MVP

By Jason Lloyd Published: June 17, 2015

CLEVELAND: Fifty-one thoughts for 51 years…

1. It’s 5:20 a.m. and Dressing Room H, the cramped NBA visitor’s locker room at Quicken Loans Arena, smells like Bourbon Street. Looks it, too. The Mumm Napa Brut Prestige champagne bottles, hundreds of them, have been picked up by two workers and placed in what appears to be about a 60-gallon trash bin. Those that didn’t fit went into a dumpster. The smell of cheap champagne – a bottle runs less than $20 – still hangs in the air and the walls are drenched in victory.

Cavs' LeBron James falls to 2-4 in Finals: 'It would hurt a lot easier if I didn't make playoffs'

By Marla Ridenour Published: June 17, 2015

CLEVELAND: The disappointment of falling to 2-4 in the NBA Finals has become almost too much for LeBron James to bear.

After seeing the Golden State Warriors close out their first championship in 40 years with a 105-97 victory in Game 6 Tuesday night at Quicken Loans Arena, the Cavaliers' star admitted that he's starting to wonder if the emotional and physical toll is worth it.

"I always look at it, 'Would I rather not make the playoffs or lose in the Finals?'" James said. "I don't know. I don't know. I've missed the playoffs twice. I lost in the Finals four times. It would hurt a lot easier if I just didn't make the playoffs and I didn't have a shot at it.
