By Jason Lloyd Published: May 28, 2016

TORONTO: Thirty thoughts for 30 points from Kyrie Irving in Friday’s 113-87 win over the Toronto Raptors in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals, sending the Cavaliers back to the NBA Finals for the second time in as many seasons…

1.      J.R. Smith sat at his locker cradling the silver ball Eastern Conference championship trophy on his lap. When he finally stood to shower, he kissed the ball and set it high atop his locker as onlookers warned him to be careful with it.

2.      “I’ll be right back,” he said. “I’m going to get your sister next.”

Significance of sixth consecutive trip to Finals not lost on LeBron James, James Jones

By Marla Ridenour Published: May 28, 2016

TORONTO: LeBron James has only two championships to show for his previous six trips to the NBA Finals, so it’s not as if everything he touches turns to gold.

But as he and Cavaliers teammate James Jones joined a list of nine men who have played in six consecutive NBA Finals Friday night, James certainly proved he’s a difference-maker.

Toronto Raptors coach Dwane Casey used that tag to describe James after the Cavs closed out the Eastern Conference finals with a 113-87 victory in Game 6 at Air Canada Centre.

James and Jones started their record streak with the Miami Heat in 2011 and won in 2012 and ’13. With their back-to-back trips as Cavs, they joined seven members of the Boston Celtics – Bill Russell, Sam Jones, K.C. Jones, Satch Sanders, Tom Heinsohn, Frank Ramsey and Bob Cousy.

LeBron James wants Cavs to play with urgency; Raptors coach Dwane Casey won't reveal lineup

By Jason Lloyd Published: May 27, 2016

TORONTO: LeBron James expects to see an urgency out of the Cavs from tonight’s opening tip that didn’t really exist in Games 3 and 4 at Air Canada Centre. The Cavaliers can advance to the NBA Finals with a win in Game 6.

“Urgency from the start, all the way to the end,” James said. “Obviously this is it for them. We have the same mentality. This is our Game 7 and that’s how we approach it.”

The Cavs fell behind by 18 during a Game 4 loss here on Monday. They have yet to match the Raptors’ energy in either game in this building, just as the Cavs have outplayed the Raptors in Cleveland.

Cavs 116, Raptors 78: Jason Lloyd's 28 thoughts on Kevin Love, podiums and ice buckets

By Jason Lloyd Published: May 26, 2016

CLEVELAND: Twenty-eight thoughts for 28 second-quarter points in Wednesday’s 116-78 win over the Toronto Raptors, giving the Cavs a 3-2 lead in the Eastern Conference finals…

1.      The hottest shooter in the building was soaking his feet in an ice bucket while LeBron James and Kyrie Irving dressed for the podium late Wednesday night. Kevin Love broke out of his shooting funk with a terrific night, then shot down the idea of going to the podium and instead enjoyed his lengthy postgame routine in silence while James and Irving even made the long walk down the corridor and into the interview room inside Quicken Loans Arena.
