Bulls 111, Cavs 105; Jason Lloyd's 13 thoughts on the end to the Cavs' honeymoon phase

By Jason Lloyd Published: December 3, 2016

CHICAGO: Thirteen thoughts for 13 baskets by LeBron James in Friday’s 111-105 loss to the Chicago Bulls, extending the Cavs’ losing skid to three…

1.     When the Cavaliers smashed the Detroit Pistons 104-81 on Nov. 18, LeBron James was genuinely excited about the play on both sides of the ball. The Cavs clogged the lane on Andre Drummond and limited the Pistons to 26 points in the paint. James called it “the best we’ve played all year” on offense and defense.

2.     The players celebrated the convincing win and went their separate ways. With no games for five days, Tyronn Lue gave the players the weekend off. When they returned following the break, their defensive principles did not. They’ve been unraveling ever since.

Bulls score 78 points in paint, send Cavs to third-straight loss with 111-105 win

By Jason Lloyd Published: December 2, 2016

CHICAGO: LeBron James dismissed any problems facing the Cavs following their second troubling loss in as many games Thursday when the Cavs lost to the Clippers. Lose three straight, James reasoned, and there’s something to talk about.

So, let’s talk,

The same problems that have plagued the Cavs all season – and have been exacerbated this week – resurfaced yet again in Friday’s 111-105 loss to the Chicago Bulls at United Center. The Bulls scored a staggering 78 points in the paint against an anemic Cleveland defense, the Bulls pounded the Cavs on the glass 49-33 and Rajon Rondo recorded his first triple-double in a Bulls uniform.

James Jones says he plans to retire after next season, his 15th in NBA

By Jason Lloyd Published: December 2, 2016

CHICAGO: LeBron James has made it clear James Jones has a place on his team as long as he wants to keep playing. Jones has now decided when that will be.

Jones told the Beacon Journal he will retire after next season, which will be his 15th in the NBA. His ultimate dream is to ride off following three consecutive championships in Cleveland, he said Friday, although clearly there is a lot of work to do before that happens.

“I know playing 15 years is a number where I can look back and I can be like, ‘I accomplished something,” Jones said. “Fourteen vs. 15 may not be much, but to be able to say I played 15 years, that’s enough for me to hang ‘em up.”

LeBron James fufills bet, arrives to Bulls game wearing Cubs jersey

By Jason Lloyd Published: December 2, 2016

CHICAGO: For one night only, LeBron James wore a Chicago No. 23 jersey Friday night.

James fulfilled his bet with Dwyane Wade and arrived at United Center dressed head to toe in Cubs gear after Chicago beat the Indians in the World Series. Wade set the terms of the bet in October and James quickly agreed. Friday he fulfilled his debt.

Wade met James as he arrived at the arena and the two shared laughs walking through the tunnels of the arena while a sea of cameras followed them. The jersey had the authentic World Series patch on the arm and “James 23” stitched across the back, invoking memories of another certain Chicago legend who wore No. 23.

Cavs blasted again, 113-94, on night shooting and defense fail them

By Jason Lloyd Published: December 1, 2016

CLEVELAND: The complacency Tyronn Lue railed against this week apparently wasn’t cured with one embarrassing road loss or one public example made out of J.R. Smith’s antics.

Identifying the problem and fixing it are two different issues. Two blowouts in three nights proves the Cavs still have work to do.

LeBron James scored 16 points, but the Cavs were drilled at home Thursday by the Los Angeles Clippers 113-94 on a night their shooting and defense again failed them. It was the most lopsided loss of the season and marked their largest deficit of the season (27) -- surpassing figures set in their game 48 hours earlier against the Bucks.

A jumper from Tristan Thompson pulled the Cavs within 47-45 with two minutes left in the first half, but the Clippers outscored the Cavs by 14 over the final two minutes of the first half and the first two minutes of the third quarter.

Mike Dunleavy out vs. Clippers, placed into league's concussion protocol

By Jason Lloyd Published: December 1, 2016

CLEVELAND: Mike Dunleavy has been placed into the league’s concussion protocol and will not play Thursday when the Cavs host the Milwaukee Bucks.

Dunleavy was struck in the head during Tuesday’s loss at Milwaukee, but symptoms did not present until Thursday. The team is hopeful he can still travel on the team’s flight to Chicago after the game, meaning there remains a chance he could be cleared in time to play Friday against the Bulls.

Tyronn Lue calls J.R. Smith's behavior 'embarrassing,' Smith was trying not to be boring

By Jason Lloyd Published: November 30, 2016

INDEPENDENCE: J.R. Smith addressed his mental lapse Tuesday night and his postgame response to it with Cavs coach Tyronn Lue, who called it an “embarrassing moment” and said Smith did not handle it the right way.

Smith blundered mentally in the second quarter of Tuesday’s blowout loss at the Milwaukee Bucks when he ran off the court to hug Jason Terry during the game. He was supposed to be guarding Tony Snell, who instead enjoyed an easy dunk while Smith’s Cavs teammates looked on bewildered.
