LeBron James (poorly) sings 'Happy Birthday' to Kevin Love

By Dan Kadar Published: September 7, 2016

LeBron James crooned "Happy Birthday" to teammate Kevin Love to celebrate the forward's 28th birthday on Wednesday.

On his Instagram page, an extremely off-key James sang to an old issue of Sports Illustrated featuring Love wearing his UCLA jersey. Maybe all of that talk about James and Love not getting along last season was overblown.

James wrote: "Happy Bday to my guy/bro @kevinlove!!! Enjoy to the fullest. All love for Love! #MyVocalsAreNice #Automatic #Worrrrrkkkkk Hahahaha"

LeBron James reveals dream is to own NBA team

By Jason Lloyd Published: August 17, 2016

LeBron James is still chasing Michael Jordan’s legacy. Eventually that may carry into ownership, too. James revealed on an “Open Court” podcast released Wednesday that his dream is to one day be an NBA owner.

“My dream is actually to own a team,” James told hosts Jesse Williams amd Stefan Marolachakis. “I don’t need to (be) fully hands on. If I’m fortunate enough to own a team, I’m going to hire the best GM and president I can.”

James has been asked multiple times about eventually owning a team, but has always avoided answering directly – until now. Jordan, who is still ahead of him with six championships, is the majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets.

“I feel like I’ve got a good eye, not only for talent, because we all see talent, but things that make the talent,” James said. “The chemistry, what type of guy he is, his work ethic, his passion, the basketball IQ side of things. Because talent only goes so far.”

Cavs to receive rings Oct. 25 against New York Knicks

By Jason Lloyd Published: August 11, 2016

The Cavaliers will receive their NBA championship rings on opening night Oct. 25 and raise the city’s first championship banner in 52 years against the New York Knicks. They’ll also host Kevin Durant and the Golden State Warriors in a highly-anticipated rematch on Christmas Day – this time at home.

The Cavs will face the revamped Knicks at home to start a season for the second time in three years – the two teams also met on opening night when James first returned to Cleveland two years ago. The game against the Warriors is followed by a return trip to Oracle Arena on Martin Luther King Day, the team’s first trip back to Oakland since winning the championship.

Other schedule highlights include a trip to the Washington Wizards on Nov. 11 that will likely include a stop at the White House to visit with President Obama.

LeBron James returning to Cavs on a three-year, $100 million deal

By Jason Lloyd Published: August 11, 2016

LeBron James is returning to the Cavaliers on a three-year, $100 million deal, a league source confirmed to the Beacon Journal. His $31 million salary for this season will make him the league’s highest-paid player for the first time in his career, according to ESPN, which first reported the signing.

James, 31, made it clear on the day of the Cavs’ championship parade he was returning to defend the title. What wasn’t clear until Thursday was the type of contract he would sign. James played on one-year deals during his first two years in Cleveland.

“I can’t be more excited than this opportunity,” James said on an Uninterrupted video released Thursday. “To defend our crown, defend our title. Weall know last year as a magical, inspiring -- all the words you can come up with – it was an unbelievable season. I just can't wait to get the group back together.”

Cavs nearing deal with center Chris 'Birdman' Andersen

By Jason Lloyd Published: July 8, 2016

The Cavaliers are nearing an agreement with free agent center Chris “Birdman” Andersen, a league source confirmed for the Beacon Journal. Andersen, 38, split last season between the Miami Heat and Memphis Grizzlies.

Andersen has averaged 5.5 points and 5.1 rebounds in his career. He won a championship with LeBron James in Miami three years ago but was traded to the Grizzlies in March. Coach Tyronn Lue reportedly went on NBA TV Friday and said the deal was complete, but a league source said it isn’t a done deal yet.

The Cavs are in the market for a backup center after Timofey Mozgov signed a four-year, $64 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency.

Cavs send Matthew Dellavedova to Bucks, create trade exception to absorb Mike Dunleavy

By Jason Lloyd Published: July 7, 2016

The Cavaliers pulled a little salary cap magic Thursday and preserved a valuable trade exception in the process.

The team sent Matthew Dellavedova to the Milwaukee Bucks in a sign-and-trade that creates a $4.8 million trade exception. They can now use it to absorb Mike Dunleavy’s salary from the Chicago Bulls. The Cavs and Bulls agreed to the deal for Dunleavy late Wednesday, but have not announced it in part because they were working on this deal separately.

Trade exceptions cannot be combined. By creating a new one for Dunleavy, the Cavs preserved the full $9.7 million exception they created by trading Anderson Varejao last season that they hope to use on a more expensive player in the future.

The Cavaliers have topped the Golden State Warriors now off the court, too.

Fueled by their first championship in team history and the city’s first title in 52 years, the Cavs topped the NBA in team merchandise sales from April through June, according to the league. It was the Cavs’ first time atop the merchandise rankings since January 2015.

Steph Curry, however, once again topped LeBron James for the most popular jersey. James finished second, Kobe Bryant was third and Kyrie Irving ranked fourth. Curry has held the top spot in jersey sales since the end of the 2014-15 season.

Cavs close to acquiring Mike Dunleavy from Chicago Bulls; Richard Jefferson announces his return

By Jason Lloyd Published: July 6, 2016

The Cavaliers still managed to benefit from Dwyane Wade changing teams. They didn’t get Wade, but they were nearing a deal late Wednesday night to receive small forward Mike Dunleavy from the Chicago Bulls, according to a league source with knowledge of the trade talks. Dunleavy, who turns 36 before next season, averaged 7.2 points and shot 39 percent from 3-point range last season.

The Cavs are not expected to send or receive any draft picks as part of the deal. The only other parts to the trade are rights to overseas players, one league source with knowledge of the trade discussions said.

While the team was negotiating the trade, Richard Jefferson announced on his Snapchat account he re-signed with the Cavs for two years after previously declaring his retirement in the locker room after the Cavs won the championship.
