Acta makes wholesale lineup changes

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.: Manny Acta stirred then shook the Indians' lineup for tonight's game against the Rays.

Changes include moving Asdrubal Cabrera from second to third in the order with Orlando Cabrera, usually sixth, taking the No. 2 spot, and Matt LaPorta moving from seventh to fifth for the second game in a row.

Acta has been firm in his defense of the slumping Carlos Santana continuing to hit in the cleanup spot, but tonight he was moved down to seventh with Shelley Duncan batting fourth and playing left field. Grady Sizemore, activated from the disabled list, batted sixth and will be the designated hitter. Sizemore has usually batted at the top of the order for Acta.

""Shin-Soo Choo is just taking a day off,'' the manager said. ""Orlando Cabrera is in the second spot because he's been swinging the bat good against left-handed pitchers (.333). That's where everything starts.''

Tampa Bay starter David Price isn't just any left-hander. He is the ace of the Rays' staff and held the Tribe to two runs in eight innings May 11, an 8-2 Cleveland loss.

""Grady hasn't played in two weeks and has to get his timing back,'' the manager said. ""We'll put him down there (6th) then move him.''

The Tribe passed on sending Sizemore on a rehab assignment to the minors.

""Even if Grady doesn't have his timing down, I'd rather he do it up here,'' Acta said. ""And it's only been two weeks.''

Concerning the move of Santana, the manager said, ""Carlos has struggled against lefties, so we're trying to keep him out of the cleanup spot.''
