Aeros win Friday, defeat Harrisburg

By sstorm Published: May 8, 2009

KEY STATS: Aeros centerfielder Jose Constanza continued to swing a hot bat, going 4-for-5 as he bumped his team-best hitting streak seven games. But the speedy leadoff man has really been a hitting machine during his last 13 games, a span during which he's batting .423 (22-of-52) with two doubles, a triple, five RBI, six walks, 10 runs scored and seven stolen bases.

"The one thing he's really done well this year is concentrate on getting on top of the ball," Aeros manager Mike Sarbaugh said. "All four of his hits were on the ground, and that's key for him."

KEY MOMENTS: The Aeros got on the board early with a run in the second on Nick Weglarz's sacrifice fly followed by a four-run outburst in the third inning featuring a three-run triple by third baseman Jared Goedert...Senators' Marvin Lowrance hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning, but Vinnie Pestano sat down the final two batters to quell the rally.

"I think some of the guys, especially the bullpen guys were a little rusty after sitting down so long," Sarbaugh said, noting that Steven Wright (who allowed one hit over two innings but also walked a pair) had gone five days without pitching and Pestano six.

STORM'S STARS: Goedert played the field for the first time since coming off the disabled list Monday with a strained right oblique, playing a solid third base for five innings. In addition, he went 2-for-3 with a double, triple, two RBI and a run scored. Of Goedert's five hits on the season, four have gone for extra bases.

"I'm glad to see Jared get back in there," Sarbaugh said. "He DH'd (Thursday), went five tonight and (Saturday) he'll go seven innings. He had some good at-bats and helped the middle of that lineup, that's for sure."

UP NEXT: The Aeros continue this three-game series with the Senators (Washington Nationals) tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Canal Park. Aeros right-hander Jeanmar Gomez (1-0, 1.80 ERA) and Senators left-hander Justin Jones (1-3, 4.22 ERA) are the scheduled pitchers.
