Asdrubal Cabrera second to Jeter in Star vote; Santana takes hitting advice

TORONTO: Asdrubal Cabrera came up a surprising second in the first announced American League All-Star Game balloting today.

Only Derek Jeter of the Yankees received more votes at shortstop (931,410 to 672,105). Second baseman Orlando Cabrera, designated hitter Travis Hafner and catcher Carlos Santana are fourth at their positions. Grady Sizemore is eighth among outfielders, and Shin-Soo Choo is 12th.

Manager Manny Acta is not surprised with Asdrubal Cabrera's showing.

""There are so many different ways to keep up with every team and every game, he's getting the support he deserves,'' he said.

Carlos Santana took some managerial and coaching advice and for one night, at least, it worked out.

""Yesterday we sat him down and told him he needs to cut out the toe tap he does at the plate,'' Acta said. ""It's a way to cut down on his body movement.''

During the game, Santana doubled twice and singled.
