NEW YORK: Manager Terrry Francona was reluctant to predict how long shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera would be out of the lineup with a right quadriceps strain.
""It could be three to four weeks,'' Francona said. ""That's the guess on their (doctors) part. He'll be back when it heals.''
In the meantime, Mike Aviles will be theTribe's everyday shortstop, an assignment he handled with the Red Sox for most of last year.
""He won't skip a beat doing that,'' Francona said. ""He's ready for it.''
Cabrera flew to Cleveland this morning and underwent an MRI scan. He has played with the injury for about two weeks but aggravated the strain when he ran out a ground ball to short Monday night.
To take his place in the roster, Cleveland called up Juan Diaz from Columbus. Diaz played briefly with the Indians last year, spending most of the season in Akron.
This season with the Clippers, he was batting .211 with eight doubles, four home runs and 18 RBI in 52 games.,
""I was s little nervous in my first (big-league) game last year,'' he said. ""Now I feel more comfortable, because last year was s good experience for me.''
