Brantley hurt as Tribe beats A's 14-10

By Sheldon Ocker Published: February 25, 2013

PHOENIX:  Michael Brantley ripped his fourth double of the spring today but ended up in the hospital after incurring a deep cut near his left forearm.

""They took him to Good Samaritan and stitched him up and he was sent back to Goodyear,''manager Terry Francona said. ""His forearm was sliced up pretty good.''

Brantley doubled to drive in a run in the third inning, and when the ball got away from the Athletics' defenders, Brantley took off for third.

Third baseman Josh Donaldson left the bag to chase a wild throw from the outfield but hustled back to take a relay and tag Brantley out. In the process, Donaldson's spikes caught Brantley in the arm. Initially, it was thought that Evan Scribner, the pitcher, took the throw at third.

""There's a lot of spring left,'' Francona said. ""It will be all right.''

The attack kept the Tribe undefeated in five exhibiton games. Yan Gomes led the way with a home run and double plus five RBI. Matt Carson homered to drive in two runs.

Ryan Raburn delivered two singles and an RBI to fix his average at .750. Ben Francisco and Cord Phelps doubled.
