CLEVELAND: Michael Brantley's sprained ankle has healed enough to make manager Manny Acta optimistic that his return to center field is imminent.
""Brantley had a very good workout,'' Acta said this afternoon. ""He went through drills in the outfield and he'll take batting practice. He might be able to come off the bench tonight and start tomorrow.''
Brantley has been sidelined since last Thursday, when he rolled the ankle trying to sprint out of the batter's box in the ninth inning of a 7-3 win in Kansas City.
When Carlos Carrasco arrives in Cleveland, presumably on Sept. 1, he will immediately go into the rotation and stay there until the end of the season.
""As soon as he comes up here, he'll be starting,'' Acta said. ""We want to see him the whole month. He's been pitching extremely well since he had that forearm injury. He's been lights out.''
Carrasco is 10-6 with a 3.77 earned-run average at Columbus.
