Brantley out with sore wrist

By Sheldon Published: August 3, 2011

BOSTON: Why has Michael Brantley batted .138 over the past seven games. Maybe it's because he has a sore wrist.

“”He has a little bit of discomfort in one of his wrists,’’ manager Manny Acta said this afternoon. “”He’s been dealing with it for more than a week. He doesn’t want to come out of the lineup, but we can see the grimace on his face when he swings. We appreciate him toughing it out, but that’s not helping him. It was checked out in Cleveland.’’

Acta said that the right wrist injury would keep Brantley on the bench until Friday in Texas, but that he is available to pinch hit or to be used as a defensive replacement.

Shin-Soo Choo (broken left thumb) hit in the indoor cages today and starts taking live batting practice Thursday afternoon.

“”I saw him in the cage, and it was pretty impressive,’’ Acta said. “”I can’t believe he’s such a quick healer.’’
