Breaking: Indians, Masterson beat White Sox 2-0

By Ryan Lewis Published: May 3, 2014

Justin Masterson returned to ace form and the Tribe's offense squeaked out enough offense to beat the Chicago White Sox 2-0 Saturday night at Progressive Field.

Masterson (1-1) threw 7 1/3 innings, allowed four hits, no runs and struck out six. Cody Allen came on for him in the eighth inning. He faced Jose Abreu with two runners on and two out and struck him out on three pitches.

John Axford then closed out the ninth for his ninth save of the season.

The Indians scored both runs thanks to poor defense from the White Sox. Lonnie Chisenhall doubled in the second inning and then scored on an error by Marcus Semien on an easy pop-up in the infield. Later, Jose Ramirez reached second base on a bunt single and a throwing error by Tyler Flowers. He was moved to third base on a Mike Aviles sacrifice bunt and home by a Nick Swisher sacrifice fly to center field.

Michael Bourn left the game after the third inning with tightness in his left hamstring. Jason Giambi left the game with a cramp in his right calf.

The Indians (13-17) have now won two in a row after dropping six in a row. The White Sox now stand at 14-17 this season.
