Breaking: Indians top Royals 5-3

By Ryan Lewis Published: April 23, 2014

The Indians topped the Royals 5-3 Tuesday night.

The Tribe grabbed a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh on Jason Kipnis’ double to the gap in right-center, which scored Nick Swisher from first.

Lonnie Chisenhall, pinch hitting, added an insurance run with a bloop single down the left-field line to score David Murphy and make it a 5-3 game.

Justin Masterson threw 6 1/3 innings, allowed three runs, two earned and struck out six.

The bullpen was solid again—Marc Rzepczynski, Bryan Shaw (who got the win), Cody Allen and John Axford closed out the game. It’s Axford’s eighth save of the season.

Michael Bourn had an RBI-triple that scored two runs. Michael Brantley also scored when he stole second and advanced all the way to home on two Royals errors.
