GOODYEAR, Ariz.: By the time the Indians' exhibition opener was complete -- a 7-6 loss to the Reds -- the anxiety about Shin-Soo Choo's sore elbow had abated.
Of course, there is a possibility the injury might be serious enough for him to miss significant time on the field but probably not.
Choo went out and played long toss from 90 feet (first indications were that he wouldn't do that until Monday), and he is scheduled to throw from 120 feet and 150 feet the next two days. He will definitely be the DH in Monday's game against the Reds and probably the next day, as well.
""It's fine, but we have to be careful,'' manager Manny Acta said. ""We pretty much won more spring training games than anybody last year, and it didn't mean a thing. We need this guy at the end.''
Choo said the pain is not in the same location as it was in 2007, when he underwent Tommy John surgery. And after completing his long-toss session today, he said the elbow felt good.
