Choo might be headed for surgery

By Sheldon Published: July 4, 2010

CLEVELAND: Not only is Shin-Soo Choo on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right thumb, there might be surgery in his future.

""We don't know exactly how long he will be out,'' manager Manny Acta said this morning. ""It obviously was more severe than we thought. He's going to have it looked at again. Surgery is as possibility. I don't think it will be season ending, but if he plays, obviously it won't be until the last month.''

Choo will be examined by noted hand surgeron Tom Graham from Baltimore before any decisions are made on what to do next.

Michael Brantley was called up from Columbus to take Choo's place on the roster. He will be the Tribe's everyday center fielder. Trevor Crowe will move from center to left, and Austin Kearns will switch from left to right. Brantley also will take over the leadoff spot in the lineup, the same place he batted in Triple-A.
