BALTIMORE: Carlos Santana will miss his second consecutive game tonight because of soreness in his right side near his back.

"It's better but I still feel it a little,'' he said. ""They put ice on it, and today I rode the bike, but they didn't tell me when I could come back.''

   HOUSTON: The Indians finished behind the White Sox in the race to acquire Kevin Youkilis.

   Chicago made the deal late this afternoon, sending reliever Zach Stewart (1-2, 6.00 ERA) and utility infielder Brent Lillibridge (.175, 63 AB) to the Red Sox. In addition to a wrist injury that has kept him out of the lineup much of the season, Youkilis, 33, has been mired in the worst slump of his career and carries a .233 batting average.

   CINCINNATI: Esmil Rogers is here and Matt LaPorta is not.

   LaPorta was optioned back to Columbus to make room for the right-handed reliever obtained from Colorado Tuesday for cash. While he was here, LaPorta appeared in only three games and went 2-for-11.

Tribe acquires pitcher with bloated numbers

   CINCINNATI:  The Indians acquired 26-year-old right-hander Esmil Rogers from the Rockies this afternoon and plan to add him to the 25-man roster.

   Rogers made 23 appearances out of the bullpen for Colorado and posted an 8.06 earned-run average in 25 2/3 innings. He gave up 36 hits, 18 walks and struck out 29.

  DETROIT: A few weeks ago, there seemed to be light at the end of the tunnel for Grady Sizemore, who is recovering from back surgery. 

   Sizemore was eligible to come off the disabled list on June 3, and it appeared that he might be ready to go on a rehab assignment soon after that date but no more.

Indians activate Johnny Damon

At least one more move coming for Indians

DETROIT: Carlos Santana rejoined the Indians today, and Double-A shortstop Juan Diaz was optioned back to Akron. But there is at least one more move coming in the immediate future.

   Johnny Damon is scheduled to return for Wednesday night's game against the Tigers, which means someone will have to go. It could be Matt LaPorta, who was summoned from Columbus when Damon was placed on the paternity list.

Indians 10th round pick in draft is Samford's Josh Martin

The Indians selected RHP Josh Martin from Samford University in the 10th round (323rd)of the  MLB draft.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Martin is a senior who was drafted in the 25th round last season by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Indians 9th round pick is RHP Jacob Lee from Arkansas State

In the 9th round (293rd overall) of the MLB drdaft, the Indians selected RHP and senior Jacob Lee from Arkansas State University.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Lee was named a Third-Team Louisville Slugger TPX All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Tribe nabs another prepster with 8th round pick

The Indians added to their pile of high school picks, selecting Texas high schooler and RHP Caleb Hamrick in the 8th round (263rd overall).

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Hamrick was a four-year starter at Cedar Hill. He was tabbed an  All-District selection four times, including the District MVP in 2010.

In 7th round, Indians take prep OF Schubert-McAdams

In the seventh Round of the draft, the Indians selected OF Josh Shubert-McAdams with the 233rd overall pick.

From Calhoun, Ga., the 6-foot-4, 210-pounder batted .447 with six home runs, nine doubles and three triples to help lead his team to a Region 7-AA title and a third-round state playoff appearance.

6th round pick is INF Joseph Wendle from West Chester, PA.

With their sixth-round selection (203rd overall) , the Indians added INF Joseph Wendle to their  2012 draft group.

The 5-foot-11, 190-ponder from West Chester University (PA) is a National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA) First Team All-American for the 2012 NCAA Division II college baseball national champions. Wendle is also a first-team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic all-America.

Tribe's 2nd and 3rd round picks in MLB draft

The Indians selected a pair of right-handed high school pitchers in the second and third rounds of the 2012 MLB Draft.

In the second round, they took  Mitchell Brown (79th overall) & in the third round Kieran Lovegrove (110th overall).

The Indians first-round selection (156th overall) of Texas A&M outfielder Tyler Naquin may have surprised most of the draft experts, but Brad Grant had him high on the Tribe’s draft board all along.

Grant, the Indians director of amateur scouting, didn’t think twice about passing on more widely-considered polished players while plucking the 6-foot-2, 175-pound Naquin from the middle of the 2012 First-Year Draft pile.

Santana will DH tonight at Lake County

   Doctors have cleared Carlos Santana to be the designated hitter at Lake County tonight and take a few swings against live pitching.

   Santana is on the seven-day disabled list created for players who have had concussions. He was diagnosed with a mild concussion nine days ago but is expected to be activated for the Indians' three-game series in Detroit that begins Tuesday night.

LaPorta called up; Damon placed on paternity list

   CLEVELAND: Johnny Damon has been placed on the paternity list for three days, allowing the Indians to fill his roster spot by calling up Matt LaPorta, who will report to the club in time for Sunday's game against the Twins.

   Damon is returning to his home in Orlando, Fla. to see his wife Michelle and his new twin daughters, who were born Friday.
