Columbus shuttle working overtime

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.: The Indians arrived at Tropicana Field on Sunday surprised to welcome two new pitchers, rather than one, which was expected.

David Huff was summoned from Columbus to start against the Rays Sunday. But along with him came veteran reliever Greg Aquino. Masa Kobayashi already had been dropped from the roster to make room for Huff. Tony Sipp was optioned back to Triple-A to provide a roster spot for Aquino.

Aquino, 31, has pitched for the Diamondbacks, Brewers and Orioles. He signed a minor-league contract with Cleveland in January that included an invitation to big-league spring training camp.

He was on the minor-league disabled list from April 16 to May 6 with tendinitis in his right shoulder. In eight appearances for the Clippers, Aquino has four saves in four chances and has given up one earned run, eight hits and four walks in eight innings.

Kobayashi, who could have opted for free agency, has accepted an assignment to Columbus.
