LHP DREW POMERANZ was named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for the period of July 3-9.

In addition to the honor, the Indians’ first-round selection (fifth overall) in the 2010 draft has been promoted to Double-A Akron and is expected to join the Aeros after the Eastern League All-Star break on Thursday during a four-game trip to Harrisburg.

Last week the high-class-A Kinston pitcher earned his third win of the season by tossing seven shutout innings against Lynchburg. Pomeranz, 22, issued just three hits while walking two and striking out seven in the Indians’ 3-1 victory.

At Kinston Pomeranz is 3-2 with a 1.87 ERA in 15 starts. In 77 innings, he's struck out 95 batters and issued 32 walks. He also leads the Carolina League in ERA (1.97) and average against (.202) and is fourth in strikeouts (95) and eighth in WHIP (1.14).

Pomeranz was selected to the Carolina League All-Star team and on Sunday participated in the XM Futures Game in Arizona as part of MLB’s All-Star weekend.
