Francona endorses Chisenhall; McAllister weeks away

By Sheldon Ocker Published: June 25, 2013

Lonnie Chisenhall hasn’t gotten into a good groove at the plate and has a stint in Triple-A to prove it.

The most difficult task for him has been hitting left-handed pitchers, which is nothing new. Heading into tonight’s game against the Orioles, Chisenhall was batting .087 against lefties but in only 23 at-bats. Against righties, he was batting .250.

Asked if he expected Chisenhall to be more than a platoon player, manager Terry Francona said, “”I sure hope so. That’s exactly what we want.’’

Zach McAllister isn’t likely to be starting a game for the Tribe any time soon.

The club’s medical staff is being extra careful that his injured finger heals totally before he faces major-league hitters.

“”Most likely, we will err on the side of caution,’’ General Manager Chis Antonetti said in explaining that McAllister probably won’t be activated from the disabled list until after the All-Star Game.
