A major league source has confirmed to FanHouse that the Giants have acquired first baseman Ryan Garko from the Indians.
Garko, 27, hit .285 with 11 homers and 39 RBI in 239 at-bats for Cleveland.
San Francisco has been seeking a bat for months to help a weak offense support a strong pitching staff. With 391 runs scored, the Giants are next-to-last in the National League. And they have gotten a .320 on-base percentage out of first base, which is worse than every team in the league but the Diamondbacks.
The 21-year-old Barnes is 12-3 with a 2.85 ERA in 18 starts for Class A San Jose in the California League. He leads the league in wins, is second in ERA and his 99 strikeouts are tied for ninth overall.
Barnes was an eight-round Draft pick in 2008 out of St. John's University. He is listed at 6-foot-4, 185 pounds. Baseball America named him the ninth-best prospect in the Giants' system before this season.
