Herrmann called up, but probably not for long

By Sheldon Published: May 10, 2011

CLEVELAND: The Indians called up reliever Frank Herrmann from Columbus today, but he might as well forget about unpacking his bags.

Herrmann took the place of Jeanmar Gomez on the roster. After makng three starts and one relief appearance, Gomez was optioned to Triple-A Monday. While he was here, he posted an 0-1 record and 4.91 earned-run average.

All of this movement is really about the return of Carlos Carrasco, who has been on the disabled list with a sore elbow since April 28. Carrasco will start Wednesday night against Tampa Bay, but for tonight, the Tribe will have one extra reliever in Herrmann
This will be Herrmann's third stint with Cleveland this year, and it's only May. More than likely, he will be the player who goes back to Columbus Wednesday to make room for Carrasco. With the Clippers, Herrmann has pitched in seven games, posting a 3.38 ERA in eight innings. With the Indians, he has pitched four times, giving up four earned runs in 4 1/3 innings.
