Hot rumor: Tribe trading for Abreu

By Sheldon Ocker Published: March 30, 2012

GOODYEAR, ARIZ.: Various internet reports say the Tribe is on the verge of acquiring 38-year-old Bobby Abreu from the Angels.

Abreu had his worst overall season in 2011 and is not in the Angels' plans. He batted .253 with eight homers and 60 RBI in 502 at-bats.

Never an accomplished outfielder, Abreu played only 28 games in the field last season, 18 in left and 10 in right. He was the starter at DH for 107 games.

If the Tribe goes through with the deal, the Angels will probably pay most of Abreu's $9 million salary. He would add yet another left-handed bat to a lineup that is far too left-handed leaning now.

Trevor Crowe was pulled from a minor-league game Thursday afternoon, so it is presumed he would be the player that Cleveland would lose to the Angels.
