How about a break for Carlos?

By Sheldon Published: April 24, 2011

MINNEAPOLIS: A Twin Cities reporter asked manager Manny Acta why he didn't give Carlos Santana more time off, for two reasons: He has a demanding job as catcher and he's been in a slump.

"Cal Ripken played more than 2,000 game in a row,'' Acta said. "Carlos has had a couple of games off (actually, one) already. And how many games have we played so far? He'll get his days off.''

On Sunday, Santana got a break from catching by playing first base. He's started at first three times and been behind the plate for 16 games.

Here's a strange stat: According to Stats LLC, in the entire 2010 season, there were 21 rainouts in the majors. Already this year, 15 games have been postponed, including the Tribe and Twins Friday night.

It's not surprising to me that 15 games were washed out this month. The weather has been awful throughout most of the country. But it seems like there should have been more than 21 rainouts for all of last year.
