Here's how the Tribe's minor league teams fared Sunday:
Triple-A Columbus (23-7) - The Clippers split a doubleheader with Lehigh Valley, losing the first game 4-1 and redbounding to take the nightcap 12-6...In Game One, LHP DAVID HUFF (3-1, 3.65 ERA) lost for the first this season after giving up four runs on 11 hits in six innings...C PAUL PHILLIPS' RBI single in second the inning was the Clippers only run as the team managed only two base runners and had no hits in the final three innings...In Game Two, Columbus’ offense exploded for 12 runs on 14 hits - including four home runs...INF WES HODGES led the offense with a three-run home run in the third inning and going 3-for-4 with four RBI...INF CORD PHELPS added a two-run home run en route to a 2-for-4 effort that included three RBI....OF JERAD HEAD and C LUKE CARLIN each had a pair of hits and slugged homers for the Clippers, while 2B JASON KIPNIS went 3-for-4 with a RBI...LHP SCOTT BARNES (2-1, 6.23 ERA) earned the win despite giving up five runs on seven hits and two in five innings.
Double-A Akron (14-16) - The Aeros avoided a three-game sweep by visiting Trenton with a 5-4 victory, scoring all five runs in the first and second innings...Akron led 3-0 after C CHUN CHEN’s two-run double and 1B MATT MCBRIDE’s RBI-groundout in the first inning. The Aeros punched in two more runs against Thunder LHP KEI IGAWA in the second inning after OF JORDAN HENRY hit a RBI triple and OF TIM FEDROFF added an RBI single while going 3-for-4...Trenton gave the Aeros a scare after cutting the lead to 5-4 against closer and RHP CORY BURNS in the top of the ninth, but went on to hold off the Thunder to earn his ninth save...RHP AUSTIN ADAMS (3-2, 2.76 ERA) picked up the win, limiting the Thunder to three runs (one earned) on six hits, in six innings...RHP CHEN LEE pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts...DH JUAN DIAZ was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
High Class-A Kinston (13-16) - The host K-Tribe’s four-game winning streak came to a halt in a 2-1 loss in extra innings to Potomac at Historic Grainger Stadium...The Nationals scored an unearned run in the top of the 11th inning after a fielding error by OF JASON SMIT, which led to Potomac’s INF STEVEN SOUZA sacrifice fly and a 2-1 lead...Despite not giving up a hit in 1 2/3 innings, reliever and RHP JOSE FLORES (0-3, 5.93 ERA) was charged with the loss...in the starter, LHP GIOVANNI SOTO limited the visitors a run on four hits and a walk through six innings, striking out five...Smit's RBI single scored Kinston’s only run...OF TYLER HOLT was 3-for-3 with a run and two walks.
Low Class-A Lake County (15-16) - The Captains dropped their fourth game in a row, a 9-6 loss to Lansing... In the bottom of the second inning, Lake County gave up seven runs (four earned) on four hits and three errors. But the Captains rallied back to cut the seven-run deficit to 7-5 late in the game before a two-run homer by Lugnuts OF MICHAEL CROUSE put the game out of reach...RHP MICHAEL GOODNIGHT (2-3, 3.24 ERA) took the loss after lasting only 1 2/3 innings, giving up the seven runs (four earned) on five hits...Relievers and RHP's JORDAN COOPER and RHP NICK SARIANIDES combined to allow just two hits and one walk the rest of the way over the final 5 1/3 innings...OF's ANTHONY GALLAS and OF CARLOS MONCRIEF each singled and doubled to drive in two RBI...DH ALEX MONSALVE also doubled and singled, driving in one run.
