Here's how the Tribe's minor league teams fared Thursday:
Triple-A Columbus (27-13) - The Clippers game against Pawtucket was suspended by rain after three and a half innings with Columbus leading 2-1. The game was scheduled to resume Friday in the bottom of the fourth inning beginning at 5:05 p.m...Pawtucket got on the board in the first inning with a solo home run off of starting RHP MITCH TALBOT (0-1, 3.60 ERA), who was pitching on a rehabilitation assignment. In four innings, Talbot gave up the run and allowed four hits while striking out five batters... The Clippers quickly took the lead in the bottom of the inning with their own fire power via solo home runs by INF's JASON KIPNIS and CORD PHELPS.
Double-A Akron (20-20) - The host Aeros split a doubleheader with Altoona at Canal Park, winning the first game 6-1 before dropping the second 2-1...The Aeros got off to a fast start in the first game, scoring five runs in the first inning and never looking back...RHP JOE GARDNER (3-2, 2.70 ERA) limited the Curve to a run on four hits and a walk, while striking out five in six inningas to earn the win...INF KAREXON SANCHEZ went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI...C JUAN APODACA also had two RBI, contributing a two-run single in the big first inning...OF TIM FEDROFF and SS JUAN DIAZ each went 2-for-3...In the second game, RHP MARTY POPHAM (0-1, 7.82 ERA) gave up two runs on six hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings as he was tagged with the loss in the close game...Fedroff had three of the Aeros six hits and also driove in the only run for the host in the bottom of the seventh.
High Class-A Kinston (17-22) - The K-Tribe rallied from behind early for a 4-3 win over Lynchburg...Trailing 2-0 heading into the home half of the first, OF TYLER HOLT walked and advanced to second on a balk...INF CASEY FRAWLEY (2-for-4 with a RBI and run scored) cut the lead in half with a run-scoring single...In the second inning, Kinston tied the score 2-2 when INF JUSTIN TOOLE reached on an error, stole second and was doubled home by C ROBERTO PEREZ...Frawley led off the third inning with a single and was later knocked in by INF CHASE BURNETTE to giving Kinston a one-run lead...OF ABNER ABREU led off the fifth with a double and came home for the final run on Burnette's sacrifice fl, as the K-Tribe took a 4-2 lead...RHP CLAYTON COOK earned his team-high tying third win by tossing 5 2/3 innings and all three runs (two earned) on eight hits while striking out five...Closer and RHP PRESTON GUILMET notched his seventh save via a scoreless ninth.
Low Class-A lake County (18-21 ) - The Captains dropped both games of a doubleheader against Fort Wayne by scores of 9-2 and 4-3. In the first game, Lake County pitchers walked a season-high nine batters, allowing six of them to score...INF RONNY RODRIGUEZ smashed the first home run of his professional career in the seventh inning, but that was virtually the extent of the offense for Game One...OF ANTHONY GALLAS hit his 17th double of the year and extending his league high on-base streak to 19 consecutive games... RHP KYLE BLAIR (2-2) took the loss after being tagged for eight runs on five hits and six walks in just 2 2/3 innings...In the second game, Lake County owned a 2-0 advantage through three innings...After starting the game by sitting down the first 10 batters he faced, RHP JORDAN COOPER allowed four consecutive base runners to reach, two of which scored to tie the ballgame. After the TinCaps posted a run in the sixth inning, Gallas doubled home INF JESUS AGUILAR to tie the game and extend his on-base streak to 20 games. In the top of the 11th inning, C ALEX LAVISKY sailed a throw into centerfield in an attempt to throw out a base stealer. OF LEVON WASHINGTON over-ran the errant throw to allow the runner to score. The Captains could not push a run across in the bottom of the inning.
