Here's how the Tribe's minor league teams fared Wednesday:
Triple-A Columbus (69-42) - The Clippers enjoyed a scheduled day off...Columbus still owns the best record in the International League at 69-42, including the best home record (38-17)…The Clippers lead the I.L. in home runs (116), runs scored (568), RBI (521), walks (463) and on-base percentage (.348)…OF JERAD HEAD has homered in four consecutive games, batting .421 (8-for-19) with 11 RBI and five runs scored over that stretch. On the season he is batting .287 with a club-best 19 home runs (fourth-best in the I.L.), 60 RBI (tied for 11th) and 22 doubles in 93 games…RHP JEANMAR GOMEZ (10-4, 2.40 ERA) ranks second in wins and ERA...RHP JOSH JUDY (5-2, 2.90 ERA) owns 15 saves (in 19 opportunities), which ranks fourth in the I.L.
Double-A Akron (57-54) - Closer and RHP Cory Burns notched his franchise-best 30th save in the Aeros 3-2 win over host Trenton at Waterfront Park. Burns surpassed Randy Newsom as Akron’s single-season saves leader, Newsom’s mark of 29 saves standing for three seasons...After the Aeros posted a two-run second inning on RBI singles from 3B KYLE BELLOWS and OF JORDAN HENRY, the Thunder tied the game in the seventh inning with a two runs of their own...But SS JUAN DIAZ provided the game winner with a solo home run in the ninth and Burns notched his record-setting save...LHP MATT PACKER (5-10, 4.38 ERA) had another impressive outing in tossing eight innings in which he limited Trenton to two runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out nine...C MICHEL HERNANDEZ went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
High Class-A Kinston (19-18 in 2nd half) -The host K-Tribe recorded a 5-3 win over first-place Myrtle Beach, evening the three-game series at one...LHP T. J. HOUSE (6-9, 4.39 ERA) did not earn a decision, but gave the visitors 6 2/3 solid innings in which he limited the Pelicans to three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks...RHP KYLE LANDIS (6-0, 1.13 ERA), continued his dominate 22-appearance stretch in picking up the win...C DOUG PICKENS came in for C ROBERTO PEREZ and went 2-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI...The Indians entered the seventh inning down 3-2, but their bats came to life just in time to snap an eight-game losing streak...RHP PRESTON GUILMET (1-1, 2.03 ERA) recorded his 27th save of the season.
Low Class-A Lake County (17-21 in 2nd half) - RHP MICHAEL GOODNIGHT (5-10, 4.57 ERA) continues to struggle to find his way back into the win column as the Captains were shutout 3-0 by Great Lakes...Goodnight has not won in 10 starts since June 7, struggling to show glimpses of the Midwest League All Star that was dominant earlier this season. He tossed just 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks...RHP JOEY MAHALIC (0-4, 7.96 ERA) bounced back from a couple rough outings to contribute 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief...But the Captains offense only managed four hits in the game, including a double by C MOISES MONTERO.
Short-Season Mahoning Valley (27-19) - The Scrappers offense got going early and scored often to cruise to a 13-5 victory over Staten Island...RHP JOSEPH COLON (4-2, 3.38 ERA) limited the Yankees a run on three hits and four walks in four innings, but did not earn a decision...INF TONY WOLTERS went 5-for-6 with two runs scored and a RBI...INF JERRUD SABOURIN went 2-for-2 with two doubles and four RBI...INF TODD HANKINS went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, two RBI and three run scored.
