Indians second baseman Jason Kipnisand right-handed pitcher Justin Masterson were named to the American League All-Star Team July 16th at the New York Mets Citi Field.
Kipnis, 26, entered Saturday’s 9-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers batting .300 with 22 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs, 54 RBI and 48 runs scored in 76 games. Although his career-best 16-game hitting streak and 36-game on base streak came to an with an 0-for-4 effort Saturday, Kipnis leads the Tribe in RBI, doubles, walks (41), runs scored and stolen bases (19).
He also ranks among American League leaders in steals (T5th, 19), OPS (5th, .916), slugging pct. (T6th, .531), extra-base hits (T6th, 38), on-base pct. (7th, .385), doubles (T9th, 22) and walks (10th, 41).
Masterson, 28, is 10-7 with a 3.78 ERA in 19 starts this season. He leads the staff in starts, innings pitched (128 2/3), wins, complete games (three) and strikeouts (131). He leads the League in innings pitched, shutouts (three) and complete games, is tied for fourth in wins, tied for first in starts, third in strikeouts and seventh in batting average against (.229).
