The Indians promoted Lonnie Soloff to Senior Director of Medical Services and named James Quinlan Head Athletic Trainer. Soloff, the club’s head trainer for the last nine years (2004-13), will take on an expanded role in research and development pertaining to physical development, performance enhancement and injury prevention while assisting club executives in short-term and long-term injury risk assessments relative to strategic amateur and professional player personnel decisions.
Soloff will continue to supervise the organization’s athletic trainers, strength & conditioning coaches and team physicians, overseeing injury treatment, rehabilitation systems and physical development at both the major league and minor league levels.
Quinlan, 32, served as the club’s minor league rehabilitation coordinator from 2008-11 after joining the organization the previous season. In 2012 he was elevated to the head trainer of the Tribe’s Triple-A affiliate, the Columbus Clippers.
The rest of the athletic training staff will remain intact with Jeff Desjardins (fifth season) serving as the lead assistant athletic trainer and Michael Salazar (third season) as assistant athletic trainer.
