Indians rally in ninth to win exhibition opener over Reds

By Sheldon Ocker Published: February 22, 2013

GOODYEAR, Ariz.:  Mike McDade delivered a bases-loaded double in the ninth to give the Indians an 11-10 win over the Reds in the exhibition opener at Goodyear Field this afternoon.

More important than the win to manager Terry Francona was the way the regulars, who played only three innings, delivered at the plate.

Michael Brantley doubled twice, drove in one run and scored two; Lonnie Chisenhall homered with a runner on base; Carlos Santana had two RBI singles, and Nick Swisher had one.
Manager Terry Francona was impressed with Brantley’s approach.
"We were swinging the bats really well, with Brantley at the top of the list," the manager said. “Any time you see a guy drive the ball the other way, his mechanics have to be in order."

Brantley said he was concentrating on finding a good pitch to hit.

"Especially the first day, I’m just trying to swing at quality pitches,’’ Brantley said. "If you do that, good things are going to happen.’’
