Indians reduce spring roster by nine

By Sheldon Ocker Published: March 11, 2013

GOODYEAR, Ariz.: The Indians trimmed nine more players from major-league camp this morning.

Pitchers Trey Haley, T.J. House, Chen-Chang Lee, Fernando Nieve and Danny Salazar returned to the minor-league camp. They were joined by position players Tim Fedroff, Matt LaPorta and Roberto Perez.

Left-hander Rich Hill was added to the 40-man rosters, and Ben Francisco was given his release. Blake Wood, recuperating from an elbow injury, was placed on the 60-day disabled list.

Who impressed manager Terry Francona while they were in big-league camp?

"In limited innings, I was really impressed with Salazar,'' he said. ""I asked Fedrroff about camp, and he said he liked it, but he felt he didn't make a good impression. He did make a good impression, he just didn't swing the bat like he wanted.''

Haley and LaPorta are not yet ready to play in games because of injury.

Fifty-one players remain on the spring roster.
